The holiday’s duration is based on the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon, a tradition that determines the Islamic calendar’s rhythm. Should Ramadan wrap up after 30 days, the ministry has confirmed an extra day off, extending the celebrations through Wednesday, April 2. This potential extension could transform the standard four-day weekend (Saturday to Tuesday) into a delightful five-day (Saturday to Wednesday), offering workers even more time to unwind or explore.
The UAE’s Moon Sighting Committee will convene on March 29 to scan the skies for the crescent. If the moon appears that evening, Eid Al Fitr will kick off on March 30, locking in the three-day holiday plus the weekend for a four-day break. However, if the moon remains elusive and Ramadan stretches to 30 days, the festivities will begin on March 31, stretching the holiday to April 2. Experts from the Dubai Astronomy Group predict a 30-day Ramadan, tilting the odds toward a five-day holiday extravaganza.
We announce that from Sunday 30 March to Tuesday 1 April, will be a paid holiday for all private sector employees across the country on the occasion of Eid Al Fitr.
