Effective from June 15 to September 15, 2025, the Midday break regulation prohibits outdoor work under direct sunlight or in open-air spaces between 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM daily.
Now in its 21st year, the Midday Break underscores the UAE’s commitment to worker safety and well-being during the scorching summer months. This initiative ensures laborers are shielded from heat-related risks, promoting a safe and sustainable work environment across the nation. Employers are required to provide shaded rest areas, cooling facilities, clean drinking water, electrolyte drinks, and basic first-aid kits to support workers during this period.

“The Midday Break reflects the UAE’s dedication to prioritizing the health and safety of its workforce,” said a MoHRE spokesperson. “This long-standing policy fosters a culture of care and responsibility, aligning with our nation’s humanitarian values.”
Violations of the ban carry strict penalties, with fines of up to AED 50,000 for non-compliance. MoHRE encourages the public to report any violations on mid-day break through its call center (600590000), website, or mobile app to ensure adherence to the regulation.
This initiative is part of the UAE’s broader efforts to enhance labor rights and public health, particularly during extreme weather conditions. Neighboring Oman has also introduced a similar three-hour midday work ban for summer 2025, reflecting a regional focus on worker welfare in high-heat environments.
