Mass Murder in Kerala

Kerala, India – February 25, 2025 – In a shocking and tragic incident, a 23-year-old man named Afan has been arrested for the brutal murders of six individuals, including his own family members, across three locations in Kerala. The motive behind these heinous acts remains unclear as authorities continue their investigation

The horrifying sequence of events unfolded on Monday evening, beginning around 5:30 PM local time. Afan first attacked his grandmother, Salma Beevi, at their family home, resulting in her death. He then proceeded to his uncle’s residence, where he murdered the couple residing there. Subsequently, Afan returned to his own home and attacked his brother and girlfriend, both of whom succumbed to their injuries. The entire series of attacks was executed within a span of two hours.

Following the murders, Afan surrendered to the local police. Authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine the underlying motive for these brutal killings. Family members and the community are in a state of shock, struggling to comprehend the reasons behind this tragic event.

Sequence of Events

The violent spree occurred on February 24, 2025, spanning three different locations within the Venjaramoodu area, near Trivandrum Kerala. Afan’s actions unfolded as follows:

  1. Grandmother’s Residence: Afan first attacked his grandmother, Salma Beevi, at her home, leading to her death.
  2. Uncle’s House: He then proceeded to his uncle’s residence, where he murdered both his uncle and aunt.
  3. Own Home: Returning to his own house, Afan attacked his younger brother and girlfriend. While his brother succumbed to the injuries, his mother survived and is currently hospitalized.

The entire sequence of attacks was executed within a span of two hours on Monday evening, starting around 5:30 PM local time.

After committing the murders, Afan surrendered at the Venjaramoodu police station, confessing to the killings. Authorities have recovered a hammer from one of the crime scenes, believed to be the weapon used in the attacks.

The police are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the underlying motive. Preliminary reports suggest that financial difficulties within the family may have played a role.

Neighbours and relatives are in a state of shock, describing Afan as a mild-mannered and soft-spoken individual. A local resident expressed disbelief, stating, “I cannot believe he did it. He was a good boy.”

This incident bears a chilling resemblance to the Nenmara double murder case, where an individual on parole committed multiple murders within the same family. Both cases involve close family ties and have left communities grappling with unanswered questions.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. This tragic event underscores the importance of mental health awareness and the need for robust support systems to prevent such devastating incidents in the future.
